Come, Then, Lord My God

Come, then, Lord my God,
come and instruct my heart
where and how to search for you,
where and how to find you.
Where shall I look for you, Lord?
...
O Lord, you are my Lord and my God, and I have never seen you.
You have made and remade me
and bestowed on me all the good that I possess...
Give thyself to me again
so that all may be well with me
for without you everything goes wrong for me.
Look kindly upon my labors,
my striving to come to you,
for apart from you, I can do nothing.

(St. Anselm, Proslogion quoted in Lost in Wonder, pp. 115-6)
